The original company founded in the early 1970's by
Peter Albanese was called, North American Development International
Corporation (NAIDCO). It's goal was to develop and operate Holiday Inn
franchised hotels in Italy for which it had acquired licenses. Shortly after, a
brief involvement overseas, the company decided to redirect it's focus domestically. The first Holiday
Inn it acquired was purchased from the Parent company (Holiday Inns, Inc.) and
located in East Peoria, Illinois around 1976. A few years later, Peter
developed their first new Holidome in Peoria-North. Both properties were sold in
1980.
In 1981, Peter was back at work. This time
planning the Holiday Inn Holidome of Alton, Illinois. This property opened
in August of 1981.
After another 2 to 3 years, Quincy, Illinois
became the next market for a similar full-service prototype. That property
opened in September of 1984.
Under the influence of a changing market, in
1987 Peter developed his first limited service hotel known as Hampton Inn
Springfield, IL.
Through the following years, the company has
managed similar sized properties including the former Best
Western in Fort Worth, Texas and Best Western Springfield Airport.
In the late 80's and early 90's new hotel
development was difficult, considering the economic climate. During this
time, the company embarked on the development of a medical office
complex in downtown Springfield, IL. This project, which also became the
new location for the home office came to be known as the Centrum
Building.
As the economy improved, Peter went back to his
origins in 1994 and built a Hampton Inn in East Peoria,
Illinois. This was located adjacent to the Par-A-Dice Riverboat Casino and
on the Illinois River. Shortly thereafter, the company acquired and
managed the Days Inn Peoria-North.
In 1995, the company acquired the Holiday Inn of Normal, Illinois which it also managed. Around the same time, the company
completed the new Hampton Inn of
Crestwood, Illinois located in a south Chicago suburb.
Two years later, the company developed it's
grandest facility in March 1997. The brand new full-service Holiday
Inn Holidome and Convention Center in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois.
This project was the culmination of years of experience from the viewpoint
of design and efficiency.
By 1998, the company managed and had ownership in
4 full-service Holiday Inns, 3 limited service Hampton Inns and a
Days Inn, each in Illinois.
Unfortunately, Peter himself had been
combating a serious illness for over a year. In February of 1999, he
passed away leaving many friends, family and fond memories behind.
Shortly after Peter's passing, the company
completed a period of consolidation and cost reduction, resulting in
the divestiture or repositioning of several of the locations.
Today, Albanese Development Corporation continues
to own and/or operate the full service Holiday Inn in Alton, Illinois as well as the
Centrum Office Building in Springfield, Illinois.
Under the direction of those family members who
worked closely with Peter throughout the years, the company is now
embarking on a new journey.
